Why I Bought This

So, there are some really well put together mini-documentaries on a YouTube channel by HoneyPot. And one of docs about OpenSource has a scene with GitHub employees and they were all wearing Hoodies with the GitHub logo.

With a quick search I found the GitHub shop on shopify at https://github.myshopify.com. There is some great branded swag available and fortunately the hoodie was available in my size. I browsed some of the T-shirts, but they were OUT OF STOCK! GitHub clothing is in demand it seems.

I have a lot of projects on GitHub, and recently GitHub has made private repositories free. It’s a great platform for OpenSource development and seems to be moving in the right direction. Putting effort into supporting the huge community that uses it. So, I’m a supporter, so wearing the GitHub logo is how I’ve chosen to show my support.

Fit and Function

I ordered a large, the fit is great. The sleeves are long which works well for me. The logo detailing is rubberized and the fabric is 52% cotton and 48% polyester, so machine washable but probably not a good idea to put in the dryer as the heat will likely wear the artwork. Because of the cotton blend I expect the colour will last through washings.

The zipper is metal and works smoothly, I expect it to last. The sewing is clean and there were no loose threads. There is no liner, but it’s warm enough for a fall day. I would say the quality is good. Time will tell.

Cost and Delivery

This hoodie is expensive!! $55 USD plus $20 USD shipping. Converted to CDN I’m out about $100 CDN. It also took about 2 weeks to deliver. The base hoodie brand is Bella Canvas so not a premium brand. An custom embroidered hoodie from Zazzle would be a better value - but I would have to upload the GitHub logo artwork and I’m not sure how the copyright laws apply here. So, I just need to get ample use out of this hoodie and take good care of it.
